University of South Asia Journal, Volume 1, Issue 1, August 2015, ISSN No. 2411-30 77 Optimization of Assembly Operation Along with QFD & FMEA Analysis of a Three Wheeler Assembly Plant in Bangladesh Moinul Ahsan Khatib Shahnawaz Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman Abstract: PIAGGIO is an Italian Band of three wheeler taxi has recently launched in Bangladesh by Karnaphuli Industries Limited These three wheeler taxis are assembl ed in Bangladesh. Diesel and compressed natural gas based three wheeler taxis run in different areas in Bangladesh. The motive of this paper is to optimize the assembly operation to minimize cost and maximize assembly performance. It will also deal with Quality Function Deployment (QFD) in the product/service design and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) of assembly of this product. This paper consists of three major activities like optimization of assembly operation, QFD analysis and FMEA analysis. These activities will use data from the primary source. During optimization of assembly operation, operation sequencing method will utilize. After successful optimizing the assembly operation, production rate increase and labor cost decrease. QFD analysis shows most important customer requirements are mileage and loading capacity, durability and service availability and lower maintenance cost. And finally FMEA reveals the impact of different failure in service and operation. This paper will theoretically improve the overall service and operation of the product which will help this company to compete significantly in the market.
