Poverty, illiteracy, as well as economic unemployment, family traditions, etc, are the leading causes through which women enter into prostitution. Purpose of this study is to highlight the reasons behind the prostitution and illuminate the role of family, society with patriarchic mindsets. This study has been conducted from madar Gate Street in Aligarh, where researcher interviewed with the 14 female sex workers to understand their experiences related to their entry into prostitution. The findings of the study point out that poverty and family culture are the main reasons behind this. Still, there is some other reason also, like marital abuse, sexual abuse and the death of a parent or husband for entry into prostitution. Most of the respondents who were interviewed stated that they were introduced by family their members into prostitution. Keywords: Prostitution, poverty, family, illiteracy Introduction Prostitution is almost is very old as human civilization, it emerges in every society. The history of prostitution is ancient. The women are being deprived of their basic rights and exploited through various aspects, i.e. physical violence, forced marriage, child marriage, fake love affairs, trafficking for prostitution and human organ transplantation etc. in every society. In the patriarchal or male dominant society don't accept the women with follies. Whenever a woman put a step out of her home even for work, the evil eyes of the men always gaze at her. A woman's beauty and physique symbolize attraction for men. Men always respect their daughters, sisters, mothers and wives, but other women are just one flesh for men to fulfill their sexual desires. Mostly, men used their wives for their sexual partners, but some of them hire prostitutes for their
