Sridevi Post-Doctoral Fellow (ICSSR), Department of Education, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh ABSTRACT The present study was aimed to find out the life skills of teacher trainees. For this purpose, a sample of 60 B.Ed. teacher trainees was taken from Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. The simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample. The Life Skills Scale was constructed for collection of data. The data was analyzed by employing t-test. The findings reveled that there is a significant difference between male and female teacher trainees in their life skills, which revealed that female B.Ed. teacher trainees have high level of life skills than their counterparts. It was also found that there is a significant difference between rural and urban area of B.Ed. teacher trainees with reference to their life skills, revealing a finding that urban area B.Ed. teacher trainees have high level of life skills than rural area B.Ed. teacher trainees. The result also indicated that there is no significant difference between government and private college B.Ed. teacher trainees in their life skills. Keywords: Life Skills, B.Ed. Teacher Trainees. INTRODUCTION Education is the main tool in developing the innate potentialities of an individual. It makes one, not only realize his/her potentialities but also enables one to use them for the development of one self and his society. Acquiring certain skills is a part of Education to have better style of living. The life skills enable a person to live his life effectively, purposefully, successfully and meaningfully. So the teachers have to plan and provide optimum opportunities for the students to acquire the skills required. According to Gandhi, “by education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in the child and man’s body, mind and spirit”. This is possible only when the students and teachers both understand the fact that the meaning of Education is not mere instruction of the syllabus of outstanding life in the democratic society. Students also should learn the things to hold a modified behavior and prove themselves as a good citizen. Teachers play a major role in shaping the Nation by sharpening the entire student’s community. An innovative and skillful teacher provides all kinds of learning environment to their students to make them efficient and effective personality in future. An innovative teacher must know the emerging technology in teaching and learning environment, to develop those skills among students, with a belief that every drop of effort becomes an ocean in the future. CONCEPT OF LIFE SKILLS It is an understanding that powerful behavioral outcomes are the results of interrelations between the skills, most importantly the psycho-social and interpersonal skills. The practice and reinforcement of psycho-social skills contributes to the promotion of personal and social development, the prevention of health and social problems and protection of human rights.
