Analysis and evaluation of the performance of public transport systems, especially the bus lines, is of great importance in traffic engineering. Management methods, such as the allocation of special lines, regular bus scheduling, optimization of delayed signaling intersections along the special lines and prioritizing bus traffic, will increase the efficiency of bus systems and enhance the willingness of citizens to use public transportation. This study aims to evaluate the performance of bus special lines in terms of quality, traffic and transport indicators. To this end, with different field surveys as well as traffic reports, the special line of Rasht was compared by 44 statisticians inside the buses and stations in two time shifts, considering information such as the number of passengers transported, travel speed and performance, travel time, stop and waiting time for bus passengers combined with ideal conditions and values. In order to model the travel time of the special bus lines, the signaling intersection of the signalized intersection along the studied path was taken at peak time with respect to traffic cameras. The results demonstrated that the special lines of Rasht are far from the minimum standard, and with the increase in the number of buses to 11 fleets, it is possible to provide faster traffic conditions for the bus system. 1. Introduction With the expansion of cities and the increase in the migration of people from villages to cities, population density is enhancing increasingly. On the other hand, traffic is one of the problems that people in the large cities are struggling with. The discussion of public transportation systems has long gone beyond engineering and turned to a social and economic issue that could have had a different impact on a community [1-3]. The public transportation system that the most important of which is the bus and subway, plays an important role in the daily commuting of passengers in the cities. One of the types of public transportation systems is the special and the fast bus lines including many advantages that directly and indirectly affect the quality of people’s everyday life [4]. Using public transport, especially the bus lines, therefore, is important for their easier and faster access. Now, if these lines don’t meet the minimum standards, including prioritizing the bus traffic at the signalized intersections, prohibiting the entry of other vehicles to the line, the minimum ITS and AVL systems, and the minimum Corresponding Author: E-mail address: amirizadi@shomal.ac.ir Tel, (+98) 1144203711 Received: 10 November 2019; Accepted: 11 December 2019 number of bus fleets, lines’ performance and citizen satisfaction will decrease. These days, the most important problem that Rasht city, as one of the 10 major metropolises in Iran, facing is that the number of taxis is much higher than the population density of the city. On the other hand, with such a volume of taxis, private cars also transport passengers and many stations and passageways lack official taxis and urban buses. Despite this, the bus system is not responsive to the transportation of passengers in different parts of the city due to the low number of its active devices and the lack of proper arrangement of bus lines and facilities [5-9]. On the other hand, there is no organizing and studying the implementation of bus stations and the design of special lines in different routes of the city. So that on some routes, buses stop by the presence of passengers. There is only one bus special line in Rasht, which is inefficient due to reasons such as the lack of continuity of the route, the distance from the city's central texture, the small number of buses and the presence of other vehicles on the special bus route. Therefore, comparing the quality indices of the special line of the present situation in Rasht with the ideal and desirable
