Abstract
This study aims to investigate the profile of Preparatory School Administrators at universities. In the
study, a general picture about the academic profile of Preparatory School Administrators is expected to
be given as well as discussing their professional development opportunities. Qualitative research design
was employed focusing mainly on “Documentation Analysis” and “Face to Face Interviews”. 172 Directors
of Preparatory Schools and 215 assistant directors were examined during the document analysis via
university web sites. 8 Preparatory School administrators, who worked at both public and foundation
universities in Turkey participated in the study. During face to face interviews, participants were asked to
share their experiences and observations at Preparatory Schools as well as other schools that they worked
with. Findings indicated that a limited number of directors have PhD degrees and the disciplines they had
their degrees is extended on a wide spectrum. 59 assistant directors out of 215 have MA degrees. It
appeared in the conversations that a majority of the administrators working in foundation universities
continue a Master Program. Following themes were determined during the interviews: “Instructional
Leadership Role of Preparatory School Administrators, Interdisciplinary graduate training for Preparatory
School Administrators and Professional Development of Preparatory School Administrators: Creating
Communities of Practice”.
