E-mail id: sfheber@gmail.com Introduction Of all the languages in the world today, English deserves to be regarded as the universal language. English is one of the world`s significant languages possessing educative as well as communicative value. In India, English language is the medium of instruction in colleges and universities. As a global language, English has become one of the most important languages for academic and most effective tools for communication. English is the language of communication. In earlier days, English was used among higher officials and in aristocratic families. With the advent of the British, the teaching of English came to India and so English has been declared the official language for our country more than 200 years. English has become the key to the store-house of knowledge. Most of this knowledge is not yet available in Indian languages. As most of the recent study materials produced for all the upcoming fields of studies are available majorly in English language. Hence the language has become an important tool in imparting knowledge among young learners. Language tensions are normal in a world where over 6000 languages in 160 countries, and itβ€Ÿs all the more normal in a country like India where 840 million people use over 1650 languages and dialects including more 200 classified languages and 15 constitutionally recognized languages of national importance.
