CRÍTICAS AO ESTRUTURALISMO NA VIRADA DO SÉCULO: o debate nas páginas de “L'Homme” e “The Americas” (2001-2003) Criticism towards structuralism at the turn of the century: the debate on the pages of “L'Homme” and “The Americas” (2001-2003) Caio Rodrigues Schechner 1 Artigo recebido em: 25/11/2019 Artigo aceito em: 26/02/2020 RESUMO Em 2001, Claude Lévi-Strauss, figura central para as Ciências Sociais, publicou no periódico L'Homme uma resenha do terceiro volume sobre a América do Sul da coletânea The Cambridge History of the Native Peoples of the Americas, organizado por Frank Salomon e Stuart B. Schwartz. Os organizadores responderam às críticas em duas oportunidades distintas: uma delas, assinada apenas por Schwartz, saiu em 2002 pela The Americas, enquanto a outra, já assinada por ambos autores, apareceu na mesma L'Homme em 2003. Este artigo parte do debate travado nessas páginas para abordar uma questão mais ampla: as contribuições e limitações do Estruturalismo enquanto método de análise dos povos indígenas, no campo da História e das Ciências Sociais. ABSTRACT In 2001, Claude Lévi-Strauss, a central figure to the Social Sciences, published in the journal L'Homme a review of the third volume about South America from the collection The Cambridge History of the Native Peoples of the Americas , organized by Frank Salomon and Stuart B. Schwartz. The organizers answered the critiques on two distinct opportunities: one of them, signed just by Schwartz, was released in 2002 by The Americas, while the other, already signed by both authors, showed up on the same journal L'Homme in 2003. This article starts from the debate of these pages to address a broader issue: the contributions and limitations of Structuralism as a method of analysis of indigenous people, in the field of History and Social Sciences.
