Three working papers by Clive Holtham Designing environments for modern business education - towards a Management Learning Studio, July 1998 Examines various influences; if written today would draw more on the example of the Bauhaus, Dessau building, its interdisciplinary academic community and its use of the building to promote its own research and teaching. What enables a building to stimulate thought, ideas, reflection? July 1999 Reviews the diversity of spaces thought to be needed. Searching for a metaphor for a business school building, October 1998 Develops the monastery metaphor in particular. These papers were fed into the design of the new Cass Business School. Not all of the ideas were feasible or implemented, but they indicate the factors in our mind during the design phase. Some of the ideas and opinions might seem undesirable or impractical in the light of what we know now. Clive Holtham June 2003
