Abstract Antibiotics are defined as chemicals compounds that eradicate or inhibit the growth of other microorganism. However there has also been evidence that they can provoke the resistance of certain bacteria specific for antibiotic groups. They may easily enter receiving water bodies since their continıous consumption and discharge to sewer systems. This study aimed to asses the environmental risk of widely used antibiotics and resistant bactera in urban wastewater in Tekirdağ city. Antibiotic consumption and resistant bactera data were provided from main hospitals and central pharmacies. Consumption data were converted to defined daily doses (DDD) according to international evaluation methods. * ADDRESS FOR CORRESPONDENCE: G., Varol Saraçoğlu, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health Division, Namık Kemal Univesity, Tekirdağ, Turkey, E-mail address: varolgamze@hotmail.com
