Abstract
Moving objects detection is a very important step in Video surveillance
applications and background subtraction algorithms are suitable for these
applications. In this paper Sobel edge detection and Background subtraction
algorithms are used for tracking moving objects. Background subtraction
method is the use of a continuous image subtraction. First of all video was
compressed using DWT algorithm, to save memory and also it reduces the
operational time. Then Sobel operator is used to get the edges of objects and
Background subtraction algorithm is applied to separate moving region from
Non-moving regions. To remove noise dynamic thresholding and then
morphological operations were used and finally labeling was done along
moving regions in video.
Index Terms— Discrete wavelet transforms, sobel edge detection, background
