KUMAR ANANT Senior Research Fellow (PhD) Department of Political Science, University of Rajasthan Abstract: India and Bangladesh border disputes related issues are a very serious challenge of India national security. The Indo-Bangladesh border is the longest land border that India shares with any of its neighbours. It covers a length of 4,096.7 Km and six Bangladesh divisions link with the border. The five Indian state viz West Bengal – 2,216.7 Km, Tripura- 856, Meghalaya-443 Km, Mizoram 317 km and Assam 362 Km. The present paper is an attempt to understand the border disputes causes, its impacts on India's national security. Discuss both countries efforts to solve border regarding problems. Introduction: The Indo-Bangladesh border is the longest land border that India shares with any of its neighbours. It covers a length of 4,096.7 Km and six Bangladesh divisions link with the border. The divisions are Khulna, Rajshashi, Rangpur, Mymensing, Sylhet, Chittagong.The five Indian state viz West Bengal – 2,216.7 Km, Tripura- 856, Meghalaya-443 Km, Mizoram 317 km and Assam 362 Km. The border Nature is porous. The border geographical features are plains, rivers, wetlands, Jungle terries, agricultural lands, national parks, Sanctuaries, forests, large estuaries, Chas lands enclaves, and riverine stretches. There are natural barriers in the border like contain. The border is a hotspot of illegal immigration, cattle smuggling, human trafficking, arms smuggling and trafficking. Bangladesh geographical position and location is most important for India. It is determinate factor India's foreign policy. Bangladesh shares more than 90 per cent of its international border with India alone. Both share almost 4,096 KM of land Border. Bangladesh is bounded by the India states of West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. So, the importance of geo- strategic and geo-economic considerations between India and Bangladesh has played a significant role in determining the relationship between the two countries. Internal developments and upsurges on either side of the border tend spillover effects into Bangladesh and India, especially in the bordering states of West Bengal and the North East States. The Porous nature of the border between Bangladesh and NES of India has proved to be conducive for drug trafficking, arms smuggling, illegal trade and migration, which negatively impact on bilateral relations. These security concerns have prevented bilateral relations from realizing their full potentials. Because of the great increase in social violence and separatist movements in India's north as well
