António Brandão y la invención de las «Cortes de Lamego» de 1143 António Brandão and the invention of the “Cortes de Lamego” in 1143 Resumen Este artículo ofrece una nueva interpretación de las supuestas «cortes de Lamego» del siglo XII que se incluyen en el tercer tomo de la Monarquia Lusita- na, escrito en 1632 por António Brandão. El autor agrega estas cortes en el contexto del «Milagro de Ourique» que cuenta ya con una tradición más lar- ga en ese momento. Se discuten las interpretaciones tradicionales y explicamos por qué las encontramos erróneas, ya que creemos que son condicionadas no por las circunstancias de 1632 sino por las de 1640 en adelante, cuando se usa como una de las justif- caciones principales de la llamada Restauração. Se basaría en que el autor fuese contrario al dominio de Abstract This article offers a new interpretation of the “cortes de Lamego” assembly, supposedly held in the twelfth century, and included in the third volume of the Monarquia Lusitana, written in 1632 by António Brandão. The author places the assembly in the context of the “Ourique Miracle”, which already had a long tradition at that time. The traditional interpretations will be discussed and we will explain why we think they are erroneous, in the light of our belief that they were influenced not so much by the circumstances of 1632, but by the ones of 1640 onwards.
