The concept of “branch equivalence” is firstly introduced in linguistics mainly in the Language for Specific Purposes by the author. Moreover, the definition of this term and the main characteristics are described in the given article. For many years in linguistics and, in particular, in the theory of translation, questions have been actively raised which related to a comprehensive description of the substantive relations between the texts of the original and the translation, including various aspects of their formal and content structure of texts. The problem of disclosing the concepts of equivalence and adequacy of translation, the criteria for the correct choice of language means to achieve the adequacy of translation is very important for the theory of translation.
