The essay discusses the relevance of the following concepts of history and philosophy of education to a teacher: metaphysics, ethics, axiology, aesthetics and epistemology. It shall talk about each of these philosophical concepts by first defining what they mean and then venture into a profound discussion of their importance in education. At the end of this writing, the essay shall conclude with reasons as to why the above mentioned branches of philosophy of education are relevant in education. To begin with, the word philosophy comes from a compound Greek word philo (φιλο)―love and sophia (σοφια) or sophos (σοφος)―wisdom. Philosophy simply means “love of wisdom” (Swetnam, 1992:142).
