Este artigo tem o intuito de, por meio da utilização dos diferentes eixos analíticos propostos por Lima (1993) – clássico, político-societal e interativo – e Jesus (2010) – construtivista, pós-estruturalista e pós-colonialista –, identificar as condicionantes que, em alguma medida, contribuíram para a definição da política externa em cada período. Ademais, o texto propõe um diálogo entre os aspectos teóricos das Relações Internacionais e da Análise de Política Externa como forma de ampliar os estudos e interpretações dos mecanismos de inserção internacional. Abstract: The first Vargas administration (1930-1945) and the Dutra mandate (1946-1951) are, generally,characterised by literature as moments in which opposing strategies of international insertion were used by Brazil: pragmatic bargaining and automatic alignment, respectively. The purpose of this article is, by using the different analytical axes proposed by Lima (1993) – classical, sociopolitical and interactive – and Jesus (2010) – constructivist, poststructuralist and post-colonialist –, to identify the conditions that, to some extent, contributed to the definition of foreign policy in each period. In addition, the text proposes a dialogue between the theoretical aspects of International Relations and Foreign Policy Analysis as a way to broaden the studies and interpretations of the mechanisms for international insertion.
