And hence most of the countries are making efforts to expand the network of roadways to reduce traffic on the roads. But according to Braess’s Paradox, it was proven that building a new road is not the solution to reduce traffic. But, India is still dependent upon the traffic policemen. It was a need to develop some more efficient system of traffic light which is cheaper than the other devices. The problem can be resolved by using an intelligent technology in monitoring the traffic in all directions from any remote source in which the system automatically detects the traffic by entering the coordinates of road intersection and some nearby distance which can be manually modified and entered in the system and information is received via Google Maps distance matrix API and change the duration of the traffic signal automatically. Hence, it would be more efficient. And this data is automatically being stored on a data warehouse for checking the traffic trend on the road and for future use. For demonstration, VNC viewer remote desktop can be used to check the traffic trend. Keywords: Braess’s Paradox, Google Map Distance Matrix API, data warehouse, VNC viewer remote desktop I. INTRODUCTION The traffic lights are basically used in managing the traffic at road crossings. Typically, the traffic light has the internal apparatus that it has a fixed duration for changing the lights from Red to Yellow and then to Green. The Conventional Traffic Lights Control (CTLC) system is followed in which the schedule is fixed for any given area and for every moment of the day. It is oblivious of the changing traffic conditions according to the different durations in a day. This CTLC system is less competent because it has no scope of tractability as it uses the hardware which lacks alterations and can’t adapt itself according to real time traffic. Supposedly, for a normal Indian city, the traffic would be concentrated during the peak hours i.e. morning and evening office hours or the morning and afternoon school off hours but the traffic is generally minimum after mid night till early morning. However, the CTLC system increases the human travel time, average vehicle waiting time, fuel consumption and hence creates dense air and noise pollution which ultimately leads to major health complications, especially for the people who are located in in the neighbouring areas. This CTLC system does not receive any prior information of the traffic volume; hence in order to make the system more effectual, the Google Map Direction API can be used, such that the live traffic data can be received for every signal on real time basis. This new technique which is progressed is known as “Remote Traffic Control & Monitoring (RTMC) system”. The relative study of the RTMC system and CTLC system is done and the success of this system is shown in this paper. II. PROBLEM WITH EXISTING ROADS The roads in India are narrow, partition less and have a lot of bumps and with the increase in the number of vehicles in India, the number of road accidents are also increasing day by day. The official Indian Accident Statistics shows that the number of road accidents and deaths have reached to one of the highest point all over the world.[28] Now the construction of new roads and flyover takes a lot of time and money. In India, we are still dependent on Traffic policemen for regulating the traffic signals based on traffic concentration. The system is still manually operated which is a sheer wastage of manpower. Some research work is going on in automating the traffic signals by using Image Processing or IR sensor but all these are quite expensive like using cameras for capturing the traffic or for regulating the traffic signal. In using IR sensor, the immediacy of the vehicle and sensor need to be very close for scheming the concentration for controlling the traffic signal. III. LITERATURE SURVEY With the advancement in technology, most people are now travelling in advanced vehicles or at least carrying smart phones with them where these devices are equipped with GPS informing about their live location anywhere on earth via satellite monitoring. The use of sensors, RFID technology, and greater advancement in Google Map API as well as in IOT
