Abstract
The idea of air transportation has been inspired by birds, but the present
advanced aeronautical technology could not mimic the complete flight
performance of the birds. The objective of this paper is to design the structure
of bird wing conceptually by using variable camber along the length of the
wing to reach the artificial requirement of the bird performance. Since each
different way will result in unique flight performance, the multi cambered
section configuration in the wing is chosen and studied. Such a wing might
enhance the flying capabilities through flapping. The complexity of creating
the bird's wing is studied. Instead of providing the changing shape in the
wings to achieve its flight, the multi-camber wing will be designed and drafted
in Catia V5, in which the camber and airfoil will be different along its length.
This conceptual design will create a wing without intruding on its structure.
Moreover, the flight ability of birds is not completely dependent on its
morphing design of wing but also on discrete wing structure having feathers
and winglets.
Keywords: - Multi-cambered, bird flight, morphing, flapping.
INTRODUCTION
One of the oldest dreams of aeronautical
engineers is to fly like a bird, and the
studies were based on the fascinating
performance of birds‟ flight, which always
mesmerized the researchers thought in
trying to replicate the same. Early attempts
to recreate the aerodynamics of bird wing
without understanding the principles
behind resulted in failure. However, after
