U.S. Catholic Secondary Schools and Holocaust Curricula Paula S.W. Laurita, MLIS 2002 Abstract In the past two decades there has been an increased awareness of the need for Holocaust curricula. In 2000, the United States Council of Catholic Bishops published Catholic Teaching on the Shoah: Implementing the Holy See’s “We Remember.” It mandated the inclusion of Holocaust education in Catholic schools. This study analyzes how secondary schools are incorporating Holocaust studies in into the curriculum, their access to information resources, and participation in professional development. Evaluation of the adequacy of these actions is presented along with suggestions for continued improvement.
