Article Info: Received: 10 th Feb. 2021; Reviewed 20 th Feb. 2021; Published: 28 th Feb, 2021 Abstract The study looked at Business Sector Preferences of Graduates of Adamawa State University. A survey research design was employed and a well structured questionnaires was used to collect data for the study. The sample size of 204 from the study area was used for the study. Cronbach Alpha coefficient indicates an internal reliability of 0.79 for the instrument using exploratory factor analysis. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable of the study with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 23.0). The findings of this study indicates that a positive effect exist between Family Background (FMB), Gender and Specialization with the Business Preference of Graduates of Adamawa State University (BPG) and the effect (p<0.05) is significant statistically and in line with a priori expectation. This means that a unit increases in family background, Gender and Specialization will result to a corresponding increase in Business Preference of Graduates of Adamawa State University (BPG by a margin of 41.7%, 4.4% and 8.9% respectively. The study concluded that family background is critical in University graduates' business preference as individuals do not decide to start a business in a isolation, they are ingeniously influenced by significant others in their environment such as their family. It was recommended among others that revolutionary entrepreneurial values need to be promoted with vigour whereby entrepreneurship course would be made compulsory in Nigerian Higher Education Institutions as this will prepared the students with the requisite knowledge in their business preference after graduation. I Introduction The word entrepreneurship is frequently used indistinguishably with the term entrepreneur though; they are the two sides of the same coin, conceptually they are dissimilar. The word entrepreneurship originated from the French verb entreprendre. It is defined as the act of undertaking innovations and risks in an attempt to convert innovations into monetary commodities. Entrepreneurship is a chief catalyst that propels the economy of many nations. Aside being the apparatus by which fresh ideas and new approaches are brought frequently into businesses and the market place, entrepreneurship assures economic proceeds from different forms of activities. In a more detailed sense, entrepreneurship is the medium in which innovation rides. Within this framework, entrepreneurs are seen as “champions” of some sort who transform ideas into products and services and at the end of the day create wealth and reduce unemployment.
