Being one of the most powerful tools for shaping public opinion, Indian media shoulders a tremendous responsibility towards the people of the country. With the media's role as an information provider and a watchdog, it has a huge responsibility towards the society. And one of the major responsibility of media to provide education or knowledge to the masses towards a specific topic. Education is one of the essential element for a human being. No one can deny its importance in improving our lives as well as our thoughts. It is, an investment of lifetime which includes formal, informal and non formal education . It enables an individual to grow with adequate knowledge, critical thinking and an environment conducive maturation. In the competition driven world, this knowledge sector definitely shapes the life of an individual into a confident being .Being an important segment of one’s life it evolves and reshapes with the changing society demands. Undoubtedly it is a tool for transformation process of a nation and a journey for students to carve a niche for themselves in the competitive world. Lokmanya Tilak, who is famous for his multi-faceted personality as a philosopher, a mathematician, promoter of Dharma and a legal expert. He was the one who bring tradition and media together to change the mentality of the people during pre independence. The tough and fiery journalism of Lokmanya Tilak was instrumental in initiating the pre independence movement. He was very successful in using traditional media while educating people towards various agendas against British. The main objectives of this research paper is to find out how he was successful in using media as a tool for education. The research paper will also give insights about the journalistic approach of Lokmanya Tilak.
