INFORMATION DISCLOSURE QUALITY,
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AND
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH IN BANKING
SECTOR OF PAKISTAN

ABSTRACT
Corporate governance is a set of guideline and benefits by which the management
of a company is supervised and managed. Therefore, good corporate governance
improves the performance as well as the firm’s value for its shareholders. Good
corporate governance performs a vital role in enhancing performance of companies;
while one of the essential characteristic that has an important role in to the corporate
governance is environmental reporting. Inspired by the opportunity environmental
reporting could attain the continuous growth and expansion. The current study model
is about to explore the relationship of corporate environmental information disclosure
quality with sustainable growth with the mediating impact of competitive advantage
(corporate reputation and corporate communication efficiency) among Pakistani
banks listed on KSE for the panel data of year 2005 to 2014. “Corporate
environmental information disclosure quality” is measured by assigning “0” to those
banks that are not disclosing their environmental information, and “1” to those who
disclose their environmental information. “Sustainable growth” is measured by using
proxy i.e. Return on Equity* Retention Ratio. Leverage ratio is used for measuring
mediating variable i.e. “corporate reputation”, and attributes of corporate social
responsibility (CSR) are used for measuring “corporate communication efficiency”.
The results indicate a significant relationship between corporate environmental
information disclosure quality and sustainable growth in the presence of corporate
reputation and corporate communication efficiency. In present study using panel data,
so for the analysis fixed or random effect model is applied on the basis of Hausman
Test for all models.
