Since antiquity, and all the more so in the 19 th century and the first two thirds of the 20 th century, military history has been one of the central and more appreciated branches of historiography. An endless number of examples can be brought to support this statement, from Tukidides to Michael Howard. However, nowadays scholars who define themselves military historians are often excluded from the historical departments of the Israeli academe, and I have a guts feeling that this is true also for many universities across the world with the exception of services’ universities where they exist. 2.
