WHAT MAKES A GOOD ESSAY? I. Structure -Does the essay have a clear INTRODUCTION which defines the keywords used in the essay and provides the outline of the essay ? -Did the author ensure a coherent flow of ideas ? Are all ideas and paragraphs properly connected among themselves? -Does the essay have a proper CONCLUSION in which the author explains what is discussed and defends his/her argument in a convincing way? II. Argument -Does the essay give a clear answer (argument) to the queson? Does the answer demonstrate that the author is knowledgeable about the topic? Is the answer original, interesng, and clever ? -Does the author support his/her argument with evidence (references to academic research and/or empirical examples from real life) ? -Does the author discuss the potenal limitaons of his/her argument? III. References - Does the author use a single referencing style (Harvard or footnote) consistently throughout the essay? - Are there missing references that the author omied? -Did the author refer to reliable sources (academic works, official stascs from official websites etc.)? Did the author successfully avoid relying on the textbook? Did the author use at least 8 reliable sources?
