ABSTRACT
In this work the optimal placement of DGs and capacitors has been proposed for
power compensation by maintaining the concept of distribution generation against
centralized generation. The placement of DGs and capacitors not only minimize the
active power loss but also enhance the voltage profile of the distribution system to
the great extent. The optimal locations and size of both DGs and capacitors have
been determined by minimizing the power distribution loss. The sizes of DGs and
capacitors are considered which are easily available on the market. The cases in
which DGs and capacitors are placed on the same bus and at different buses are
considered. The evaluation of optimal power factor has also been carried out in the
same bus case. The analytical approach has been used to solve the optimal place-
ment problem. The results obtained have been compared with Particle swarm opti-
mization (PSO) approach results and also the other approaches result available in
literature. The proposed approach is tested on 33-bus, and 69-bus test systems.
