Slow Cities-Conquering our Speed Addiction for Health and Sustainability 慢城市-征服我们的速度瘾健康与可持发展 书名:《Slow Cities》英语版 作者:Paul Tranter & Rodney Tolley 版本:Elsevier, New York 2020. Abstract To create healthier places to live, we need to consider the broad idea that faster is always better in city transport and recognizes that speed may impact it. The fast movement has proved "faster is always better" transportation is a damaging and costly legacy. Some research proved 1.35 million road deaths globally each year (WHO, 2020), death from air pollution from cars exceeding people die from car crashes (Caiazzo, Ashok, Waitz, Yim, & Barrett, 2013); surging obesity rates across nations vehicle use correlates 99% with annual obesity rates (Jacobson, King, & Yuan, 2011); enormous growing demands for energy-transport uses more than two-thirds of the world's oil production (Chicca, Vale, & Vale, 2018); and a climate emergency for transport that contributes to greenhouse gases increment. Realizing the disadvantages of speed overweight its advantages, this book introduces the concept of "Slow City" in the context of transportation to create healthy places. It shows how new environmental, economic, social, and political pressures are emerging to increasingly challenge the dominance of speed and provide some strategies to overcome it. Slow cities book divided into three parts discussing the Speed, Health, and Strategies. First, part the author glancing at us information of how to change cultures of speed, examine and critique standard argument about the benefit of speed for individuals, economy, and society, and closing with claim "Slowing City Transport" improve not only our health but also time-saving. The second part explains how slower transport can benefit human health (physical, mental, and emotional) and how mental and economic health benefits from a "Slower City". The third part contains some strategies for implementing the idea of "Slower and Healthier Cities". The author also adds some overview of how Slow Cities' importance in the world affected by the Global Pandemic Covid-19.
