The Analysis of Indonesian Translation of English Disney Songs Lyrics by Nieza Ayurisma and Aurelia Vina Traditya Abstract The Walt Disney Company, as a large multinational mass media and entertainment company from United States of America, promotes its products to the international market. Its products of entertainment, such as the animation movies, are translated into several world languages. Usually, the translation of Disney animation movies is done through dubbing method, especially when they are shown through national TV like in Indonesia. Besides the narration and conversation of the stories in Disney’s animation movies, the songs in the animation movies are also translated by the professional translator and sung by professional singers. The aims of this study are to see how the translator fit the translated lyrics with the original melody and to figure out if the translated lyrics represent the whole meaning of the English version with well-ordered lines. The study employs qualitative descriptive approach and the data are colleted from four disney songs consisting of two different titles with two versions of English and Indonesian along with their transcripts. Transcripts of the lyrics are compared and analyzed to see how the translator renders the songs. Together, the analysis of the findings show that the translators are creative to arrange the words with the lyrics, so that they can fit the melody of the original music. In addition, the translated lyrics do not represent the whole meaning of the songs, but have similar basic points of the original lyrics with well-ordered lines. Introduction The famous company which provides many children movies is The Walt Disney company, the large multinational mass media and entertainment from The United States of America. The Walt Disney company promotes its products to the international market. Their most famous products are available in form of animation movies. The animation movies are available in English, because the main language of United States is English. However, due to its international market, the animation movies from The Walt Disney company are translated into many other languages. The translation of the movies can be available in form of subtitle text or dubbing. Usually, the translation of Disney’s animation movies which use dubbing are when they are shown on national TV channels. The translation by using dubbing can be available in more various types on the scenes of singing songs. In Indonesia, there are at least three common types of translating Disney’s songs in animation movies: by using subtitle text, by dubbing the translated lyrics without singing the original melody, and by singing the translated lyrics with the original melody. This paper will focus on discussing Disney’s songs which the translated lyrics are sung with the original melody.
