Between the medieval virgin and contemporary silhouettes Paula Sibilia Professora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação – IACS/UFF. <sibilia@ig.com.br> RESUMO A partir de alguns episódios ocorridos em 2012, nos quais a rede social Facebook suspendeu as contas de várias usuárias que publicaram fotos amamentando seus flhos, este ensaio tece uma refexão sobre certas transformações ocorridas ao longo dos últimos séculos na sociedade ocidental. O foco se concentra nos deslocamentos simbólicos e morais em torno da nudez do seio feminino que é exposto ao público, procurando identifcar os sentidos das reações censoras que esta imagem tem motivado em diversos momentos históricos. A intenção é contextualizar esta atitude, não só a partir da análise de certas manifestações que tal gesto provocou (tanto na internet como na mídia em geral), mas também recorrer a uma perspectiva genea- ABSTRACT Starting from a few 2012 episodes, in which Facebook suspended the accounts of several users that had published pictures of themselves nursing their children, this essay raises some thoughts about some transformations occurred in the past few centuries in western society. The focus is the moral and symbolic displacement surrounding the nudity of the female breast, trying to identify the meaning of the censorship this image has caused in several historical periods. The intention is to contextualize this seemingly anachronistic atitude of the American company, not only as through the analysis of certain protests this gesture has provoked in the internet and the general media, but also resourcing to a genealogic perspective capable of questioning today’s moralization and interdiction
