ABSTRACT
The study looks into the importance of firm size in the corporate governance index-
performance relationship in Pakistani family businesses. The research uses a corporate
governance index (CGI) that was developed using sound corporate governance
practices. The results reveal that large sized family firms have gained higher score of
corporate governance. Further, the findings confirm the positive monitoring impacts on
family firms’ performance and however, firm size shows a little effect on the CGI-
performance relationship. These results suggest that large sized family firms should
further improve the quality of both internal and external CG system of the firm with true
spirit of integrity rather just the compliance of law to strengthen the CG-performance
relationship.
Key words: Corporate Governance; Firm Performance; Firm Size; Family Firms;
