Scientometrics of computer science research in India and China Suresh Kumar, K. C. Garg National institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies Pusa Gate, K.S. Krishnan Marg, New Delhi 110 012 Abstract An analysis of 2058 papers published by China and 2678 papers published by India in the field of computer science during 1971-2000 indicates that India’s output was significantly higher than the Chinese output. Chinese scientists preferred to publish in domestic journals, while Indian scientists preferred to publish in journals published from the advanced countries of the west. Also the share of papers in SCI covered journals was higher for India as compared to China. However, no significant difference has been observed in the impact of the research output of the two countries as seen by different impact indicators. Team research is better in India as compared to China.
