This chapter concludes my analysis of that battle, starting with the collapse of the Persian left flank. In this chapter I seek to reconcile the conflicting accounts in the sources as far as possible, to determine the most likely course of events. At the end of the chapter is an appendix that summarises the course of the battle by rough stages. (Portrait of Alexander the Great, most likely by the sculptor Leochares – Acropolis Museum, 2018.)
