University Of Science & Technology Nkpolu- Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt-Nigeria FUFEYIN, PERE CLETUS Delta State University, Abraka Nigeria joesac2000@yahoo.com Abstract This study was conducted on the differences between male and female principals in their disciplinary and control roles vis-a-vis their violation of students' rights in the administration of secondary schools in Rivers State. The study is an opinion survey and inferential in nature. A population of 300 principals was used for the study. A sample size of 76 principals was determined through the stratified random sampling technique which represented 25% of the population. The instrument used for the generation of data for the study was "The Differences between Male and Female Principals in Their Disciplinary and Control Roles' Questionnaires (DPDCRQ) with a reliability coefficient of 0.65. The 76 questionnaires returned by the respondents were used. The analysis of the data was carried out by the use of percentage to answer the three research questions. Hypothesesl, 2, and 3 were tested using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient while the t-test was used for hypothesis 2 at 0.05 level of confidence, resulting in the rejection of three null hypotheses and acceptance of one null hypothesis. Findings of the study reveal that; Principals' role perception was significantly related to their violation of the rights of institutional members. Based on these findings a number recommendation was made with the view of improving principal's awareness of the legal implications of violating the rights of institutional members. Among others, it was recommended that education policy makers should adopt stricter measures to improve on the supervisory roles of principals of secondary schools in Rivers state. And more importentty, male Principal should be given special training on the need to discharge their duties without interfering WIth the fundamental rights of the students. Background to the Study 2.
