Nevertheless, the issue of poverty is still crucial in this region. Several studies have found empirical evidence that there is a negative relationship between education and poverty. Nevertheless, an increase in the quality of education indicators in Klaten Regency has not been sufficient to trigger the increase in productivity which is expected to contribute in reducing the poverty rate. This paper examines the relevance of the role of education in Klaten and the surrounding areas to poverty. Through the Random Effect Model, the results of this study indicate a significant positive relationship between the population who did not complete primary school with the percentage of poor people in Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri and Boyolali. An increase in the population who did not complete primary school in Kabupaten Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri and Boyolali by one percent will increase the percentage of poor people in those areas averaged by 1.495 percent (ceteris paribus). This study found no empirical evidence of the effect of school enrollment rates, especially on the age of compulsory education (7-12 years) and the percentage of literacy rates in the productive age group (15-55 years) on the percentage of poor people in Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri and Boyolali. However, the model estimation shows that the relationship of the variables is negative, although not significant. Keywords: poverty, education, panel, Random Effect Model Abstrak Hasil pembangunan di Kabupaten Klaten yang didekati dari indikator IPM mengalami pertumbuhan yang cukup baik bahkan mampu meraih posisi ke-6 tertinggi di Jawa Tengah pada tahun 2015. Meskipun demikian isu kemiskinan masih krusial di wilayah ini.Beberapa penelitian telah menemukan bukti empiris bahwa terdapat hubungan negatif antara pendidikan dan kemiskinan. Namun demikian kenaikan pada indikator kualitas pendidikan masyarakat di Kabupaten Klaten ternyata belum cukup mampu untuk memicu peningkatan produktivitas yang diharapkan dapat berkontribusi dalam menurunkan angka kemiskinan. Melalui paper ini dikaji kembali keterkaitan peran pendidikan di Kabupaten Klaten dan wilayah sekitar terhadap kemiskinan. Melalui Random Effect Model hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan signifikan positif antara penduduk yang tidak tamat SD dengan persentase penduduk miskin di Kabupaten Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri dan Boyolali. Kenaikan penduduk yang tidak tamat SD sebesar satu persen akan meningkatkan persentase penduduk miskin di Kabupaten Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri dan Boyolali rata-rata sebesar 1,495 persen (cateris paribus).Penelitian ini tidak menemukan bukti empiris adanya
