Entre la citada centuria y fnales del siglo XIX, detalla su origen, su evolución disciplinar, el avance de sus instrumentos y técnicas de diagnóstico y representantes destacados. Asimismo, hace referencia sintética a su desarrollo y aplicación en los siglos XX e inicios del siglo XXI, destaca su largo recorrido en Medicina y señala su proyección histopatoló- gica así como su posible cambio paradigmático. En suma, alude a su pasado a valorar, a su presente a construir y a su futuro a descifrar. Palabras clave: Histología - Medicina - Historia THE CHALLENGING COURSE OF MEDICAL HISTOLOGY A past to be valued, a present to build, a future to decipher Summary Tis paper considers the history of medical histology from the 17th century to the present. Between the aforementioned century and the end of the 19th century, it details its origin, its disciplinary evolution, the advancement of its diagnostic instruments and techniques, and prominent specialists. Likewise, it refers synthetically to its development and application in the 20th and early 21st centuries, highlights its long career in Medicine and points out its histopathological projection as well as its possible paradigmatic change.
