ABSTRACT
In this paper, two magnetically coupled damping filters known as interphase reactor have been
applied to two-phase two position step up boost regulator. Detailed analysis and design strategy
method have been done to show the effect of replacing the two filters without magnetic coupling
usually used for reducing the current ripple in the interleaved regulator by an interphase reactor.
The main attention is focused on the synthesis, analysis and simulation of the two-phase parallel
connection of interleaved regulator with directly coupled filters known as an interphase reactor. A
comparison of the two-phase connection with uncoupled smoothing filters or with magnetically
coupled filters is done. Actual criteria for comparison may be carried out from dynamic behavior and
performance, technical parameters and investment perspectives.
Technical parameters are considered to be: Distribution of currents into phases and harmonic
content. Investment costs depend on demands to the material needed for designing the filters. For an
interphase reactor with inversely coupled damping filters, phase current ripple can be reduced if
operating points and coupling coefficients are carefully chosen. On the other hand, an interphase
reactor with directly coupled damping filters has the advantage of low sensitivity to input variation at
high frequencies [2].
Generally, the use of interphase reactor with directly or indirectly coupled damping filters helps in
equal distributing of currents into phases without using control methods and it helps in removing the
harmonic content (the amount of the ripple in the load current and voltage) as compared to that with
uncoupled damping filters without the need for special filters. Computer simulations in Simplorer and
Matlab/Simulink have been done and software prototypes have been prepared to verify the results.

1. INTRODUCTION
A stepping up interleaved regulator with smoothing filters is commonly used in applications such as
powering microprocessors. They are ideal for converting a 5V-system to the 2V or so, at up to 20A
that processors require. It is also widely used for traction motor control in electric automobiles, trolley
cars, marine hoists, and mine haulers [2].
