Considerations and criticisms of positivism Walter Arturo Pérez Rodas Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala wrodas166@medicina.usac.edu.gt https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7006-127X Reseña / Review Resumen Reacciones propias a la lectura de Alberto Fernández, “El primer positivismo: algunas consideraciones sobre el pensamiento social de Saint Simón y Comte” y de Gustavo Paredes, “Críticas epistemológicas y metodológicas a la concepción positivista en ciencias sociales”. Desde el inicio de las lecturas las críticas de Fernández y Pa- redes fueron claras y sobre todo alteraron las percepciones de un médico con orientación occidental, con forma- ción en método científco, hábil y amante de los números y fuerte defensor de lo medible. Henry de Saint-Simon presentó la crisis como la existencia de incompatibilidades y como estas han continuado hasta una sociedad actual dirigida eminentemente por la industria; además como el positivismo y sus cuatro ideas fundamentales, expuestas por Auguste Comte, siguen teniendo mucha validez. No cabe duda que actualmente se debe ver, pensar, imaginar y actuar más allá del positivismo. Palabras clave: positivismo, crítica, ciencias sociales, método científco, teoría crítica Abstract Own reactions to the reading of Alberto Fernández, “The frst positivism: some considerations on the social thought of Saint Simón and Comte” and Gustavo Paredes, “Epistemological and methodological criticism of the positivist conception in the social sciences”. From the beginning of the readings, the criticisms of Fernández and Paredes were clear and above all they altered the perceptions of a doctor with a western orientation, with training in scienti- fc method, skillful and lover of numbers and a strong defender of the measurable. Henry de Saint-Simon presen- ted the crisis as the existence of incompatibilities and how these have continued until a current society eminently directed by industry; furthermore, like positivism and its four fundamental ideas, put forward by Auguste Comte, they continue to be very valid.
