Eng.. / Univ. of Tech. 429 Study of Thermal Characteristics of a Composite Specimen Experimentally and by Using Finite Element Method Dr.Jawad Kadhim Uleiwi ∗ , Sura Salim ∗ Received on:17/9/2006 Accepted on:5/12/2007 Abstract This research deals with the study of the effect of fibers volume fraction and fibers orientation on the thermal conductivity and wall surface temperatures for composite specimen in form of Lee’s disk by using experimental work and finite element technique. The results show that the thermal conductivity increases with increasing fiber volume fraction of the composite specimen, and in the longitudinal direction is larger than in the lateral fiber direction.The experimental results indicated that the largest value of the thermal conductivity for the composite specimen was (0.611 W/m.°c) at (V f = 40 %) in the longitudinal direction, while the lowest value was (0.195 W/m.°c) at (V f = 10 %) in the lateral direction. Also the results show that the maximum difference for the thermal conductivity between the experimental work and finite element method was ( 7 % ) at ( V f = 10 % ) in the lateral direction while the minimum value was ( 3.5 % ) at ( V f = 40 % ) in the longitudinal direction. Key words: composite specimens, thermal conductivity, Temperature distribution ﻋﻠـﻰ ﺍﻷﻟﻴـﺎﻑ ﻭﺃﺘﺠـﺎﻩ ﻟﻸﻟﻴﺎﻑ ﺍﻟﺤﺠﻤﻲ ﺍﻟﻜﺴﺭ ﻤﻥ ﻜل ﺘﺄﺜﻴﺭ ﺩﺭﺍﺴﺔ ﺍﻟﺒﺤﺙ ﻫﺫﺍ ﺘﻨﺎﻭل ﻟـﻲ ﻗـﺭﺹ ﺸـﻜل ﻋﻠـﻰ ﻤﺭﻜﺒﺔ ﻤﺎﺩﺓ ﻟﻌﻴﻨﺔ ﺍﻟﺠﺩﺍﺭ ﺴﻁﺢ ﺤﺭﺍﺭﺓ ﻭﺩﺭﺠﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﻭﺼﻠﻴﺔ. ﺍﻟﻤﺭﻜﺒـﺔ ﻟﻠﻤـﺎﺩﺓ ﺍﻟﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴـﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﻭﺼـﻠﻴﺔ ﺘﺯﺩﺍﺩ ﺍﻟﺤﺠﻤﻲ ﺍﻟﻜﺴﺭ ﺒﺯﻴﺎﺩﺓ ﺒﺎﻨﻪ ﺍﻟﻨﺘﺎﺌﺞ ﺒﻴﻨﺕ ﻭﺘﻜﻭﻥ ﻟﻼﻟﻴﺎﻑ ﺍﻟﻁﻭﻟﻲ ﻭﺒﺎﻻﺘﺠﺎﻩ ﺍﻻﻟﻴـﺎﻑ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻌﻤﻭﺩﻱ ﺒﺎﻻﺘﺠﺎﻩ ﺍﻟﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﻭﺼﻠﻴﺔ ﻤﻥ ﺍﻜﺒﺭ. ﻜﺎﻨﺕ ﺍﻟﻤﺭﻜﺒﺔ ﻟﻠﻌﻴﻨﺔ ﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴﺔ ﻤﻭﺼﻠﻴﺔ ﺍﻋﻠﻰ ﺒﺄﻥ ﺍﻟﻌﻤﻠﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻨﺘﺎﺌﺞ ﺒﻴﻨﺕ ﻜﻤﺎ( 0.611 W/m.°c ) ﺤﺠﻤﻲ ﻜﺴﺭ ﻋﻨﺩ(V f = 40 %) ﺍﻟﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴـﺔ ﻟﻠﻤﻭﺼـﻠﻴﺔ ﻗﻴﻤـﺔ ﺃﻗل ﺒﻴﻨﻤﺎ ﻟﻸﻟﻴﺎﻑ ﻤﻭﺯﺍﻱ ﻭﺒﺄﺘﺠﺎﻩ ﻜﺎﻨﺕ ﺍﻟﻤﺭﻜﺒﺔ ﻟﻠﻌﻴﻨﺔ(0.195 W/m.°c) ﺤﺠﻤﻲ ﻜﺴﺭ ﻋﻨﺩ(V f =10 %) ﻋﻠﻰ ﻋﻤﻭﺩﻱ ﻭﺒﺄﺘﺠﺎﻩ ﺍﻷﻟﻴﺎﻑ. ﺍﻴﻀﺎ ﺍﻟﻨﺘﺎﺌﺞ ﻭﺃﻅﻬﺭﺕ" ﻭﺍﻟﻨﺘـﺎﺌﺞ ﺍﻟﻌﻤﻠﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻨﺘﺎﺌﺞ ﺒﻴﻥ ﺍﻟﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﻤﻭﺼﻠﻴﺔ ﻓﺭﻕ ﺍﻋﻠﻰ ﺒﺎﻥ ﻫﻭ ﺍﻟﻨﻀﺭﻴﺔ(7 %) ﺤﺠﻤﻲ ﻜﺴﺭ ﻋﻨﺩ(10 %) ﺍﻷﻟﻴﺎﻑ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻌﻤﻭﺩﻱ ﻭﺒﺎﻷﺘﺠﺎﻩ. ﺃﻗـل ﺒﻴﻨﻤـﺎ ﺍﻟﻌﻤ ﺍﻟﻨﺘﺎﺌﺞ ﺒﻴﻥ ﺍﻟﺤﺭﺍﺭﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﻤﻭﺼﻠﻴﺔ ﻓﺭﻕ ﻫﻭ ﺍﻟﻨﻀﺭﻴﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻨﺘﺎﺌﺞ ﻠﻴﺔ(3.5 %) ﺤﺠﻤـﻲ ﻜﺴﺭ ﻋﻨﺩ(40 %) ﻟﻸﻟﻴﺎﻑ ﺍﻟﻁﻭﻟﻲ ﻭﺒﺎﻷﺘﺠﺎﻩ.
