Chapter 53 Smart Wearable Safety Device: A Wearable Anti-Assault and Location Tracking Device Madhu Agarwal, Simantika Saha, Soumyadeep Pandit, Prasenjit Sarkar, Shreya Shree Das, and Subhojit Dawn 1 Introduction Assaulting in the streets has become a major threat to the world in this era. Every day women are harassed, people are robbed, and children are kidnapped. Despite the endless protests, measures taken by the police authority, and political intervention the percentage of rapes in the nation has raised over the years. According to the annual data released by the Government of India on January 15, 2020, a rape case is reported every single 15 min [1]. Despite various national-level government initiatives and campaigns like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter), the crime rate has increased in 2018 compared to 2017; as the data disclose that crime against women has increased by 0.9%. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on October 21, 2019, released its report for the year 2017, which stated that 359,849 cases of crime against women were reported in India [2]. One of the most terrifying examples is the rape and murder case of Dr. Priyanka Reddy which took place on November 27, 2019 in Hyderabad, India [3]. There are a large number of such anti- rape/assault products already existing in the market, most of them are made especially for women like the Anti-Rape Condom, Fem Defense Tampon, Hairy Stockings [4], and so on but these are just simple contraptions, designed only for women which may or may not be effective at the time of the assault.
