Con una profunda voz lírica y la habilidad de un escritor con oficio y rigor se sumerge en la Cartagena esclavista del siglo XVII para recrear un mundo que transluce en su diégesis las reflexiones sobre la historia, la ficción y la memoria, un incesto altamente gozoso. La hegemonía, la desmemoria impuesta, el oprobio del fuerte, las tretas del débil, la transculturación, el sometimiento, la disidencia y las postrimerías son los insumos que alimentan la novela. Tras ellos habita una profunda reflexión sobre el oficio literario y las confrontaciones de un escritor. Sin duda, es ésta una obra de gran aliento y un nuevo patrimonio de nuestra literatura nacional. Abstract With The silk-cotton tree of memory Roberto Burgos Cantor has produced a major piece of work. The writer’s great ability and deep lyric voice, mixed with his passion and rigor, enter the city of Cartagena during slavery, in the XVII c. He recreates a world re- vealed in the narrative of history, fiction and memory throughout a highly joyful incest. As resources feeding the novel stand hegemony, lack of memory, dishonor from the strong, ruses from the weak, transculturation, subjugation, dissi- dence, and last moments. Behind, there is a great reflection on liter- ary occupation and a all confron- tations of a writer.
