A metodologia adotada foi a análise geomorfológica, respaldada em revisão bibliográfica e trabalhos de campo. O trabalho teve por objetivo analisar os compartimentos geomorfológicos presentes na área de estudo, afim de subsidiar a região com informações sobre as suas paisagens, já que ocorre grande déficit de pesquisas desse cunho na região. Como resultado, aponta‐se que foram identificadas as seguintes unidades de paisagem: superfície de aplainamento com inselbergs (cristalinos e sedimentares) e planície fluvial, essa relativa ao médio curso do Rio Acaraú. As unidades de paisagem identificadas apresentam características geoambientais próprias, formando um quadro atípico no semiárido cearense. Palavras‐chave: Geomorfologia do semiárido. GEOMORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CARIRÉ, STATE OF CEARÁ Abstract The object of study of the present work is the geomorphology of the municipality of Cariré, located in the northwestern portion of the State of Ceará. The methodology adopted was the geomorphological analysis, endorsed by bibliographic review and fieldwork. The work had as objective to analyze the geomorphological compartments present in the study area, in order to subsidize the region with information about its landscapes, since there is a large research deficit of this nature in the region. As a result, it is point out that the following landscapes units were identified: planation surface with inselbergs (crystalline and sedimentary) and fluvial plain, relative to the middle course of the Acaraú River. These landscapes units feature their own geoenvironmental characteristics, forming an atypical picture in the semi‐arid region of Ceará. Key words: Geomorphology of semi‐arid.
