The study adopted descriptive survey research which intends to find out differences in the use of coping strategies (emotion focused, problem focused and avoidance focused coping strategies among victims with post-traumatic stress reactions according to their levels. The population of the study include all the victims in government registered internally displaced person's camps in the North Eastern states in Nigeria. There were 1,037,671 numbers ofIDPs in the North Eastern States. The sample of this study was six hundred and fifty (650) male and female adults' victims of insurgency in IDPs camps. Two instruments were used to collect the data, they include PTSD CheckList - Civilian Version (PCL-C) and Jalowiec Coping Scale. The result shows that victims with moderate post-traumatic stress used emotion- focused coping strategy more than victims with high and low Post-traumatic stress as indicated by their mean difference, the findings also show that victims with high post-traumatic stress used problem-focused coping strategy more than victims with moderate and low Post-traumatic stress, also victims with high post-traumatic stress used avoidance-focused coping strategy more than victims with moderate and low Post-traumatic stress as indicated by their mean which is higher than the mean of victims with moderate and low Post-traumatic stress among victims of insurgency in north eastern Nigeria. Recommendations based on these findings include sensitization of Psychologies and counsellors on the usage of the coping strategies (emotion focused coping, problem focused and avoidance focused coping strategies) to minimize the risks of posttraumatic stress disorder among victims of insurgency in north east and that high, moderate and low victims with posttraumatic stress should also be given equal opportunity to use coping strategies in handling their stress.
