Experimental Methods 1.1 Materials. All chemicals were reagent grade or higher and used as received unless stated otherwise. Bromoundecene (95% purity), potassium thioacetate (95% purity) and trifluoroacetic anhydride (99% purity), were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Milli-Q water (18 MΩ cm) was used for rinsing of samples and preparation of solutions. Ethanol, ethyl acetate, light petroleum and dichloromethane were redistilled. 1.2 Synthetic route. Br S O S CF 3 O SH potassium thioacetate, 95% ethanol HCl in 95% ethanol trifluoroacetic anhydride, CH 2 Cl 2 1 2 3 Scheme S1. Synthetic route for preparation of the thiol terminated alkene with a trifluoroacetyl protecting group.
