Editorial The yearly global economic impact of dental diseases is about $442 billion. The direct costs due to dental diseases are $298 billion annually, corresponding to 4.6% of global health expenditure. Each year an amount of $400 billion is spent, including millions of dental procedures and pointing to imperative needs for tooth therapies [1]. Annual fees and implications Root filling therapies display a 17% increase/per year for a population with low caries prevalence [2]. Severe odontogenic infections implicate the length of stay at the hospital; antibiotic administered, intensive care unit stay, co-morbidities, and cost implications. Statistics indicate that about 2.5 million endodontic cases were treated in 1995. The selection of antibiotics Antibiotics are used in dental practice to prevent and cure topical or systemic infections. For dental surgeons, the association of amoxilline clavulanate is predominant. The cost of daily doses of antibiotics was 47.18 Euros/1000 inhabitants/day. Following the prescribtions combining penicillins (betalactams and fluorquinolones), the National Health Care System evaluates the cost for dental treatments at 334.12 million euros. Amoxicillin associated with clavulanic acid account for 67.8% of all prescriptions and 59.4% of the total cost. Spiramycin and metro-nidazole association account for 13.34% of the prescriptions, and represents the most used by dental practitionners [3] listed the ideal properties of endodontic sealers. They were aiming to establish a hermetic closure, dimensionally stable, that does not cause discoloration of the tooth, with a slow stetting time, and insoluble in tissue fluids.
