Abstract
Ad-hoc wireless network is characterized with high error rate compared to wired
networks. Therefore, fragmentation of large frames into smaller fragments, in order to
reduce the effect of erroneous frames retransmission, is usually recommended. In this
paper, we propose a Priority-based Fragments Retransmission (PFR) for IEEE 802.11 Ad
hoc wireless networks. Our proposed idea affords the transmitter of fragments burst a
priority to retransmit a lost fragment over other contending nodes in ad hoc wireless
network. PFR includes a modification for the DCF (Distributed Coordination Function), in
case of fragments loss. The idea is to give the transmitter a priority to retransmit the lost
fragment over the other nodes that are contending on the channel before dropping already
