Abstract Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was leveraged as a tool for teaching and learning Quadratic equation in this paper. Quadratic equation is generally perceived as a difficult and demanding topic to solve. Often, the challenge of solving the equation becomes enormous when dealing with the one having complex roots. In view of this, this study presents an alternative method of solving Quadratic equation through development of an application solver that implements' completing the square technique and graphical method. The building process was done on Microsoft Visual Studio.NET, an Integrated Development Environment and the coding phase was implemented using a high level language, Microsoft Visual C# programming language. The run time environment embraced for the application is Dot Net Framework 4.0. The application solver is undoubtedly a vital tool for users who desire to solve any polynomial equation of second degree with one unknown variable using completing the square technique and graphical method. Keywords: Polynomial equation, Quadratic equation, Completing the square method, Graphical method, Microsoft Visual Studio NET, Application solver, Microsoft Visual C# mathematics education reveal that students face serious challenges in solving quadratic equations and they are not conscious of the important concepts in quadratic equations (Didiº, et al., 2011; Lima, 2008; Makonye and Nhlanhla, 2014; Sarwadi and Shahrill; 2014; Vaiyavutjamai and Clements, 2006). Consequently, there are numerous mistakes made by the students mostly in solving quadratic equations (Zakaria and Maat, 2010). The three approaches that are usually taught in schools for solving quadratic equations are (i) factorization, (ii) completing the square and (iii) the quadratic formula. Improving on how students think, control their understanding of mathematical concepts and learn what kind of errors they made is imperative to minimize their lackluster performance. Introduction of a quadratic equation application solver will no doubt enhance students' performance. The use of ICT becomes extremely essential because at this Information age, students consider teaching with adequate use of technology as inspiring and inevitable while finding DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF APPLICATION SOLVER FOR QUADRATIC EQUATION 1 2 3 Ogunbade, A.O., Sogbetun, L.O. and Engr. A typical mathematical expression type is algebra, an essential topic in Mathematics which must be understood (Chazan, 1996). In literature, there are numerous diverse viewpoints related to the description of algebra nevertheless, the common facts of the definitions are solving equations, finding unknowns and using symbols. In summary, algebra is viewed as a generalized arithmetic, the study of processes for answering problems, the study of relationships among quantities and the study of structures (Usiskin, 1988). One of the crucial and difficult subjects in algebra learning area is quadratic equations (Kotsopoulos 2007; Vaiyavutjamai, et al., 2005). The subject of quadratic equations is important since it enables to create connection between numerous mathematical topics such as linear equations, functions and polynomials (Saðlam and Alacacý, 2012).
