ART IN THE PHILIPPINES Arts in the Philippines refer to all the various forms of the arts that have developed and accumulated in the Philippines from the beginning of civilizaon in the country up to the present era. They reflect the range of arsc influences on the country's culture, including indigenous forms of the arts, and how these influences have honed the country's arts. These arts are divided into two disnct branches, namely, tradional arts and non-tradional arts. Tradional arts in the Philippines Tradional Art is a kind of art that forms part of a culture. It Includes group of people, skills and knowledge which are transformed from one generaon to another. These are examples of Philippine tradional arts. 1. Folk architecture The Bahay kubo is a type of slt house indigenous to the cultures of the Philippines. It is also known as payag or kamalig in other languages of the Philippines. It oſten serves as an icon of Philippine culture. Its architectural principles gave way to many of Filipino tradional houses and buildings that rose aſter the pre-colonial era. 2. Weaving Binakol weaving (transliterated, “ to do a sphere”) Binakol weving is a type of weaving paern tradional in the Philippines. Paern consisng enrely of straight line are woven so as to create the illusion of curve volumes. They believed that evil spirits that hovered overhead and preyed on sleeping souls. The blankets in the dizzying designs, they believed, would confuse and distract the evil spirits.
