Abstract Due to the proliferation in the number of vehicles on the road, traffic control system is one of the major problems in the current world. One of the main reasons for this problem is that the current transportation infrastructure and car park facility developed are unable to cope with the influx of vehicles on the road. To take this problem under consideration here an automatic multi-level car parking system has been developed and designed. An effective car- park model is proposed which is fully automated and computer controlled. MATLAB software is developed to control the overall parking system. INTRODUCTION Car parking has been, and still is, a growing problem, with increasing vehicle sizes in the luxury segment as well as sport-utility vehicles. This is especially true when bearing in mind the confined parking spaces in parking lots and cities. While damage during parking generally does not cause any injury to the passengers, it is costly and annoying. A multi- level car parking is essentially a building with number of floors or layers for the cars to be parked. The different levels are accessed through interior or exterior ramps. An automated car parking has mechanized lifts which transport the car to the different levels. Therefore, these car parks need less building volume and less ground space and thus save on the cost of the building. Car parking is an issue of significance both at the local and at the strategic level of planning. In order for parking policy decisions to be well founded, the analysis of parking behavior and the effects of parking policies should be fully integrated with the other elements of the transport planning and modeling process. Here a circular parking model is introduced where the cars are lifted from the base. The base can rotate circularly and a rack-pinion mechanism is set on the base which is used to move the cars to the parking chamber at different level. Here we have designed the parking system for two levels and the angle of basement is about 30 0 to 40 0 . II. OBJECTIVES The main objectives of the car parking system are- Reduction in time spent searching for parking. Reduction in congestion due to fewer cars driving around searching for spaces. Elimination of queues entering parking facilities because drivers will not go to a facility where there is no available space. Reduction in illegally parked vehicles. Better distribution of flow and parking demand through the area. III. HARDWARE SETUP We have fabricated the car parking system by wooden frame. Besides different types of hardware arrangements are needed here. A. Rack and Pinion A rack and pinion (Fig. 2) is a pair of gears which convert rotational motion into linear motion. The circular pinion engages teeth on a flat bar – the rack. Rotational motion applied to the pinion will cause the rack to move to the side, up to the limit of its travel. For example, in a rack railway, the rotation of a pinion mounted on a locomotive or a railcar engages a rack between the rails and pulls a train along a steep slope.
