If left untreated, the abnormalities of mineral and bone metabolism may lead to morbidity and mortality. Well-controlled levels of phosphate and parathyroid hormone by applying phosphate binders, vitamin D, and/or calcimimetics in combination with non-pharmacotherapy are key elements to prevent this complication.
