Manije Torabi 1 , Fatemeh AliAkbari 2 * , Fereshte Aien 2 , Fatemeh Deriss 3 Background and Aims Permanent pacemaker implantaton is one of the signifcant procedures for controlling and treatng arrhythmias and cardiac conductve diseases. However, this method may create many physical and psychological complicatons for the patents and afect their quality of life. Learning self-care behaviors based on family-centered empowerment model is one of the efectve methods for improving the quality of life. This study aimed to assess the efect of family-centered care on the quality of life of the patents with pacemaker implants. Methods This study was a clinical trial conducted on 70 patents with pacemaker in Chamran Hospital in Is- fahan City, Iran. The study data were collected using the SF-36 QoL questonnaire. The obtained data were analyzed using statstcal tests such as the Independent t test and repeated measures of analysis of variance in SPSS V. 23. Results Comparing the scores obtained from the control and interventon groups in the eight areas of quality of life before and afer the study revealed that the interventon of the family-centered empowerment model resulted in increased scores in seven areas and accordingly the overall quality of life. However, these changes were not signifcant in the control group. Conclusion In line with other relevant studies, the results of the recent study indicate that the training based on the family-centered empowerment model can play an important role in the adopton of proper health be- haviors and independence of the patents with permanent pacemakers. In sum, by implementng this model, the health of the patents with chronic diseases can be improved.
