Several set-up allowing guided wave characterizations of thin films are described. Examples of the various characterizations are discussed. Keywords: optical guided waves, m-lines, thin films, optical properties, electro- optical properties, thermal properties, anisotropy Biographical notes Ludovic Escoubas was graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physique de Marseille (ENSPM, France), in 1994 and received a PhD in Optics in 1997. Since 1998, he has been a senior lecturer teaching Optics at the Ecole Généraliste d’Ingénieurs de Marseille (EGIM), formerly ENSPM, and doing his research work at the Fresnel Institute in the group "Microstructured Optical Components".
