Siva Rama krishnan, S.Garret Raja Immanuel Keywords: Power, Knowledge, Discourse, Truth, and History ABSTRACT New Historicism, as suggested by John Brannigan, deals with “the power relations of past societies” (9). Here, the power signifies, the concept postulated by Michael Foucault, which, as mentioned by David Carter, “is exerted though discourses, allowing the subject to believe that he or she is free and able to make autonomous decisions.” (133).The connection between Foucault’s concept of power relation and New Historicism is deeply interconnected. As it is discussed in the chapter two, the history not only represents the culture or the social energy, but also represents the power relations of the society. The social energy, as described by Stephen Greenblatt, is also consisted of circulation of Power. (19). Thus the connection between history and power relation is inseparable. The paper aims to read Khaled Hosseini’s novel, The Kite Runner with Foucault’s concept of Power/Knowledge. The researchers analyse the representation of Power in the text and argues that the power relations create knowledge of what counts as truth. Therefore, the paper primarily analyses the construction of knowledge in the society through the act of discursive formation. The formation of discourse is thus seen as an outcome of circulation of power in the society. PDF / / /
